I specialised in this area because there are a lot of women who are struggling to lose weight despite all the efforts they have put in at the gym and with their diet.
We know when women go through menopause weight gain is something they may experience, but women not going through any form of change may also struggle due to hormone imbalance. When hormones are out of sync, whether it is one or more it can cause an array of issues with weight gain being one of them.
Which hormone causes weight gain?
There are a few hormones that influence our ability to control our weight for e.g. Estrogen while known as the female sex hormone also can impact weight fluctuations.
The estrogen hormone plays a role in bone metabolism, glucose metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and the way in which the body stores fat. All of which can impact the appetite, and energy levels. When Estrogen levels are both high and or low our weight can fluctuate.
When too high it can trigger the body to produce more insulin leading to insulin resistance, high blood sugar, and weight gain. When too low the body will convert more energy into fat to keep estrogen levels in balance. This is why keeping your hormones in balance is important.
How can we balance our Estrogen hormones?
Your diet is first and foremost the most important because both texture, and quantity of food affect the production and secretion of hormones. Foods that are rich for the gut i.e high in Probiotics and those that are rich in good fat can support toxin removal and hormone regulation. I won’t use the word exercise, but movement is also necessary to help keep the hormones balanced. This doesn’t need to be extreme but gentle movement keeps the body functioning.
